Most of our Manchester work is larger in scope than a single installation: a Victorian semi in Didsbury being opened up at the back and re-roofed, a Chorlton terrace gaining a loft bedroom and en-suite, a family home in Sale or Stretford going through a full refurbishment while the owners live elsewhere for a few weeks.

Those projects need sequencing more than they need salesmanship. We manage the trades in order — structural, roof, glazing, plumbing and electrics first fix, plaster, joinery, second fix, decoration — so the site keeps moving and you always know what happens next week.

South Manchester — Didsbury, Chorlton, Withington, Levenshulme, Sale and Stretford — is largely late-Victorian and Edwardian brick with bay frontages, deep reveals, original mouldings and, quite often, a conservation area or Article 4 direction to work within.

We treat the frontage as the thing you don't compromise on. That usually means slim-sightline or vertical-sliding-sash windows, heritage colours, timber-look detailing, and keeping original brick arches and stone cills intact. Behind the house, where nobody is looking at the elevation, you can be as contemporary as you like — aluminium bi-folds, roof lanterns and open-plan kitchen-dining space.

North of the city — Prestwich, Whitefield, Blackley, Moston, Eccles and Swinton — we see more inter-war semis and larger detached homes, where the common projects are two-storey side extensions, garage conversions, dormer loft conversions and full roof replacements.

It's also where we do a good share of our commercial and landlord work: refurbishments between tenancies, external repairs and planned maintenance.
