Walls and ceilings, made sound and ready to decorate.
Plasterboarding, replacement ceilings, skim coats and repairs — in traditional stone homes and modern interiors, with care around existing services.
Boarding and skimming are different jobs.
Plasterboarding fixes new boards to walls, ceilings or a frame to create a new surface. Skim plastering applies a thin finish coat over boards or sound existing plaster to give a smooth surface for decorating. Many jobs need both; some only need one. We'll explain what your walls or ceilings need after looking at them.
Older properties often have lime or traditional plaster, uneven stone walls and deep window reveals, and need a different approach from modern plasterboard interiors. We assess the existing surfaces before recommending repair, overboarding or replacement.
Plastering and boarding work.
Plasterboarding
New plasterboard to walls, stud partitions and ceilings, fixed to suit the background and the room's use.
Replacement ceilings
Taking down damaged or sagging ceilings and replacing with new boards, ready for a skim finish.
Skim plastering
A finish coat over new boards or sound existing plaster. How the finish looks depends on the background, light and decoration, so we'll explain what to expect.
Patch & plaster repairs
Repairs after damage, alterations, cracks or new services, blended in as closely as the existing surface allows.
Window reveals & details
Reveals, returns and feature surrounds, which need careful setting out — particularly in older properties.
Traditional refurbishments
Work in older stone properties, where existing surfaces, damp and suitable materials are assessed before plastering.
Services, fire-rated boards and drying.
Existing services
Cables, pipes and sockets are located and worked around carefully. Any electrical or plumbing alterations are arranged with suitably qualified trades where needed.
Fire-resistant board
Used only where the design, a building control requirement or a specific situation calls for it — for example around certain structural elements. We don't suggest it's needed everywhere.
Building Regulations
Plastering is often part of wider work. Where that wider work needs Building Regulations approval, compliance is handled for that project; we don't offer blanket certification for plastering.
Drying time
New plaster must dry fully before painting. Drying times vary with thickness, temperature and ventilation; we'll advise on first coats.

Planning plastering work.
- Plastering is messy — rooms are protected, but clearing furniture beforehand helps.
- Damp walls need the cause investigating before replastering.
- Fresh plaster usually needs a mist coat before normal decorating.
- Our 2-year workmanship guarantee covers eligible Alliance work; hairline shrinkage cracks as plaster and buildings settle are a normal part of drying rather than a defect.
