Floors fitted properly, from the subfloor up.
Herringbone and straight-lay wood-effect, laminate, engineered wood and LVT for kitchens, hallways and living spaces — always assessed and prepared before anything is laid.
A good floor starts with what's underneath.
Most flooring problems — movement, gaps, squeaks or lifting edges — come from the surface below rather than the boards themselves. We check the existing subfloor, levels and moisture conditions first, then recommend a suitable floor type and the preparation it needs.
We fit floors as part of kitchen and refurbishment projects and as standalone jobs. You can choose from options we can source, or supply your own suitable flooring for us to fit — the survey and quotation confirm what is suitable for your rooms.
Flooring options we can discuss.
Every product has its own fitting requirements and suitable rooms. These are the main types we're asked about.
Herringbone pattern
Short blocks laid in a zig-zag pattern for a classic look. It takes more setting out and cutting than straight lay, and suits hallways, kitchens and living rooms where the floor is a feature.
Straight lay
Planks laid in parallel runs — the simplest and usually quickest pattern. Board direction is planned around the room shape and light.
Laminate
A practical, hard-wearing option available in many wood-effect looks. Moisture resistance varies by product, so suitability for kitchens and hallways is checked before choosing.
Engineered wood
A real wood top layer on a stable core. It can suit living spaces and, depending on the product, some kitchens. Acclimatisation and moisture checks matter.
LVT (luxury vinyl tile)
Can suit kitchens, hallways and bathrooms depending on the product. Many LVT floors need a very smooth, level subfloor, which may mean preparation or a levelling compound.
Wood-effect looks
Oak, grey, natural and darker tones are available across several floor types. We'll help you compare samples and practicality before you decide.
Examples only — subject to survey, specification and availability
The details that make a floor last.
Subfloor assessment
We look at floorboards, concrete or existing coverings, check levels and look for movement or damp that could affect the new floor.
Floor preparation
Depending on what we find, this may include re-fixing boards, overboarding, levelling compound or a suitable underlay. It's listed in your quotation.
Transitions & thresholds
Neat thresholds where floors meet another surface or a doorway, chosen to suit the floor heights on each side.
Skirtings & beading
New skirting boards, or beading against existing skirtings, to finish the expansion gap around the room.
Doors after a new floor
A thicker floor can mean internal doors need trimming. We'll check door clearances at survey and include it where needed.
Kitchens, halls & living spaces
Floor choice depends on the room: moisture and spills in kitchens, heavy foot traffic in halls, comfort and warmth in living rooms.

Before choosing a floor.
- Underfloor heating affects which floors and underlays are suitable — tell us if you have it or plan to.
- Some floors need to acclimatise in the room before fitting; your quotation will explain any requirement.
- Furniture and appliances may need moving; we'll agree who does this beforehand.
- Manufacturer fitting instructions and warranties vary by product and are separate from our 2-year workmanship guarantee on eligible Alliance work.
